The fauna The micro-fauna present in the peat bog environment is particularly rich, normally widespread in humid environments. The numerous water pools promote the growth of insects with an aquatic larval phase, or that spend their entire life in the water. The peat bogs also constitute a particularly important location also for amphibians, as some species use these damp environments for reproduction, laying their eggs in the deeper water pools. Among the most common species we find the common toad (Bufo bufo), the common frog (Rana temporaria), the alpine newt (Triturus alpestris), and the possible presence of the yellow-bellied toad (Bombina variegata) has also been noted. Here it is possible to find some species of reptile, attracted to this damp environment by the abundance of food sources, including the viviparous lizard (Zootoca vivipara), the common viper (Vipera berus) and probably the smooth snake (Coronella austriaca). The complexity and size of the damp areas of Danta, as well as the neighbouring presence of large conifer woods also promotes the presence of a particularly diversified bird community. There are sedentary birds such as the willow tit (Parus montanus), the coal tit (Parus ater), the crested tit (Parus cristatus) and the common treecreeper (Certhia familiaris). Furthermore, the presence of the black woodpecker (Dryocopus martius) and the boreal owl (Aegolius funereus) is equally interesting. The community of micro-mammals is very abundant. The most common species are the common shrew (Sorex araneus), the dwarf shrew (Sorex minutus) and the mole (Talpa europaea). The presence of some species that are particularly suited to life in damp environments are also noted, including the field vole (Microtus agrestis) and the water shrew (Neomys fodiens). On the edge of the forest some species have been found including the deer, roe deer, mountain hare (Lepus timidus) and the pine marten (Martes martes). Finally, it is deemed possible that there may be chiropters, microchiropters, dormice (Dryomys nitedula), bears (Ursus arctos) and lynx (Lynx Lynx).
