Safeguard and valorization of peat bogs in Danta di Cadore
"Danta2004" Life04 NAT/IT/000177

Presence of foreign structures within the natural environment

In the past, the area of the Val di Ciampo peat bog was used as a slope for alpine skiing. The slope was later abandoned as a result to other tourism development choices made in the district. The traces that remain are limited to three reinforced concrete structures that supported the cable car system pylons. These structures do not blend in with the natural characteristics and landscape of the area, and may negatively influence the overall image of the site, above all with a view to the implementation of naturalistic and educational tourism initiatives.

The impact is exclusively of a landscape nature, but is important because aside from the ecological and naturalistic peculiarities of the damps areas, this peat bog is located in a highly appreciable area in terms of beauty, with a widespread presence of woods belonging to the “mountain fir woods with mesic soil” type with a clear prevalence of Abies alba (silver fir) and considerable wilderness characteristics.
